Mr. Rafiq is a British National and a Senior Economist in the Asia and Pacific Department at the International Monetary Fund. He has extensive experience in Fund operations having previously covered frontier, emerging and advanced countries in the Asia and Pacific region.

Mr Rafiq has also worked on several IMF-supported program countries during his IMF career. Before joining the IMF, he worked at the European Central Bank and the Government of Malaysia’s Sovereign Wealth Fund. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics and Econometrics and has published numerous peer-review journal articles in the areas of macro-financial economics.

After his presentation, there will be commentary from Mr. Marcel Schroeder, Economist at the ADB PNG, and Mr. Paul Barker of the INA.
