The Australia – PNG Emerging Leaders Dialogue is set to become an annual event.
The dialogue, which took place last week at the Lowy Institute in Sydney, is an initiative run by the Institute designed to strengthen connections between young leaders from both countries. Delegates were addressed by Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop at a reception to follow the event.
According to the co-chairs of the dialogue, Jenny Hayward-Jones and Serena Sumanop, some of the most interesting recommendations were around initiatives to improve perceptions of PNG in Australia.
They said participants had innovative ideas about using film, television and children’s literature as well as professional journalism exchanges to help Australians gain a better understanding of their nearest neighbour.
