The ease of doing business in Papua New Guinea, based on the World Bank’s latest rankings.
PNG was ranked 120th out of 189 world economies in the World Bank’s 2020 Ease of Doing Business rankings. In 2016, the country was ranked 145th.
PNG’s 2020 rankings in the survey’s 10 individual categories were as follows:

The biggest improvement over four years is in the ‘getting credit’ category, with PNG jumping 119 places since 2016. This follows an innovation aimed at improving access to credit, the Personal Property Security Registry (www.ppsrpng.com), which records security interests in movable property.
There have also been improvements in online business registration by the PNG Investment Promotion Authority.
In June 2020, the World Bank received reports of anomalies in the 2018 and 2020 reports. The World Bank launched an investigation that confirmed the irregularities. In September 2020, it announced in a statement the discontinuation of the publication Ease of Doing Business.
